Appolos SHIMAKELENI Director & Founder

Prior to having ventured out on his own to establish ASL, Appolos, an admitted legal practitioner of the High Court of Namibia and a Notary Public served as a Senior Legal Officer at the Office of the Government Attorney (Civil Litigation) where he was mainly tasked with appearing in the High Court on behalf of the various Namibian Government Ministries, Agencies, institutions, and employees on a variety of legal matters.

Appolos holds a B.Juris and a Bachelors of Law (Honours) Degree from the University of Namibia and is pursuing a Masters Degree in Information Technology Law with the University of South Africa. Appolos started his legal career in 2012 and has also served in the private sector, where he has consulted in the areas of labour law, criminal law, matrimonial matters, motor vehicle accident claims, amongst others. 

Other notable achievements:

  • Served on the Namibian Music Awards Steering Committee
  • Appointed as one of the Judges for the Namibia Sports Awards by the Namibia Sport Commission for three terms (2016)
  • Elected at the Law Society of Namibia Annual General Meeting as a Council member for two terms (2017)

In May 2017, through a rigorous selection process Appolos was awarded an opportunity to attend the highly acclaimed Holland & Knight lawyer trainee programme. The programme is established with the primary aim of aiding young lawyers to harness their legal skills and develop them into sharp legal minds. At Holland & Knight, Appolos was mentored by renowned lawyer, Mr. Stephen W. Snively, a senior partner at a law firm in Orlando, Florida. Through his legal engagements in the corporate and public sector space, Appolos has been exposed to judicial systems in South Africa, India, China, and the USA, after having visited the said countries through various exchanges and conferences.

Johanna Hamunyela Senior Associate

Johanna is an admitted Legal Practitioner of the High Court of Namibia since 2015, has the right of audience in the Supreme Court of Namibia, and is a Notary Public. Johanna holds a B.Juris and a Bachelors of Law (Honours) Degree from the University of Namibia and is currently pursuing a Master of Business Administration (MBA) with the Regent Business School, South Africa.  Prior to her appointment with ASL,  Johanna was employed as a Senior Legal Officer with the Ministry of Justice in the Office of the Prosecutor-General since 2014. Johanna attends to various matters in the areas of criminal law, family law, civil litigation and commercial law. As an admitted Legal Practitioner, Johanna litigates in the High Court of Namibia.

Robert Xamseb Candidate Legal Practitioner

Robert holds a Bachelors of Law (Honours) Degree from the University of Namibia where he also scooped the prize of Best Student in his programme. He is currently employed as a Candidate Legal Practitioner at ASL and predominantly deals with matters in the areas of administrative law, family law, labour law, and general civil litigation. Being an avid researcher, Robert has served as managing editor for the University of Namibia’s Law Review. He has also participated in international moot court competitions, and was further tasked to draft the Guide to Elections Observation Manual in Namibia in 2014. Robert previously served as a Candidate Legal Practitioner at the Legal Assistance Centre.

At ASL, Robert represents clients in the lower courts and attends to the drafting of legal documents.

Dineo Namoya Candidate Legal Practitioner

Dineo holds a Bachelors of Law (Honours) Degree from the     University of Namibia, where she was a standing member of the Legal Committee under the Student Parliament and the Secretary-General for the University of Namibia Law Students Council. At ASL, Dineo serves as a Candidate Legal Practitioner and attends to matters in the areas of Criminal Law, Commercial law, and Family Law. Prior to her appointment, she was employed as a Graduate Market Advisor at the Professional Provident Society (PPS) Insurance Namibia in 2019. 

At ASL, Dineo represents clients in the Lower Courts as well as attends to the drafting of legal documents.

Anna Uguanga Candidate Legal Practitioner

Anna holds a Bachelor of Law (Honours) Degree and a Diploma in Alternative and Dispute Resolution from the University of Namibia.  Prior to having joined ASL as a Candidate Legal Practitioner, she was interning at the Oshakati Magistrates Court and completed a job shadow exercise at Sisa Namandje & Co Inc.  At ASL, Anna attends to matters in the area of property law, family law, labour law, and general civil litigation, as well as represents clients in the Lower Courts and attends to the drafting of legal documents.

Hileni Shilamba Candidate Legal Practitioner

Hileni has been a student intern at ASL since 2018. She recently obtained her Bachelor of Law (Honours) Degree from the University of Namibia. Hileni has been moulded by the industry through her several job shadowing and internship opportunities. At ASL, she amongst others handles legal research, debt collection, settlement negotiations and general civil litigation. Hileni has served as a Deputy Secretary of Finance at the University of Namibia’s Law Students Council.

Daniel Shoshili Bookkeeper/Office assistant

Daniel holds an Honours Degree in Finance Management as well as a Postgraduate Diploma in Education from the International University of Management (IUM). He also holds a Diploma in Business Management from Amity University, India. 

He serves as the in-house bookkeeper and is responsible for the overall logistics and operations at ASL.

SILAS SHIMAKELENI LEGAL SECRETARY

Silas holds a Bachelor of Criminal Justice in Policing from the Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST). He provides the necessary administrative support and ensures operational efficiency for the ASL legal team. He is also currently pursuing an LLB Honours Degree with the University of Namibia and assists with the drafting of legal documents and legal research.
